Le sous-sol est fait de dalles calcaires et de marne blanche. Il porte 40 centimètres environ de terre argilo-siliceuse, assez légère et graveleuse, brune et rougeâtre. La pente est légère. Origine jurassique, il y a quelque 150 millions d’années.
