Grape variety

Pinot Noir

Vineyard

Côte de Nuits

Type

Rouge

This plot would have been first been planted with vines in the year 1000 to be the first in Nuits. In 1023, Humbert de Vergy, archdeacon of Autun, and his sister Élisabeth de Vergy gave these vineyards to the Collegial Chapter of Saint-Denis (founded by him in Vergy the same year).
Would it then have belonged to the very old Brotherhood of Saint George? A brotherhood, from medieval Latin “confratria”, was originally a pious association of lay people who belonged to the same community by nature of ideology and profession. Saint George was a brotherhood of winegrowers whose patron saint was one of the first saints to protect the vineyards of the Côte. Since the year 1000, Saint George has protected the vines of the Saint-Julien chapel which served as the parish church. It has a chapel dedicated to Saint George.

Karine Moréteaux

Chanzy's expert advice

Serving temperature: 15°C
Full-bodied and powerful, this wine gives the Côte de Nuits its letters of nobility and its strong character. Nothing is more customary than for the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation to sit at the table with both tasty and virile meats, roast lamb, prime rib, or duck breast to wrap their fibers in a solid net. The same goes for furry game, which are flattered by the wild and animal aromas that appear with age.

Food and Wine pairing

Full-bodied and powerful, this wine gives the Côte de Nuits its letters of nobility and strong character. Gourmets also serve it with certain fish such as carp en matelotte in red wine. Finally, it likes soft cheeses with a washed rind such as Époisses, Langres or Soumaintrain.
