Wine
This wine brings to mind the morello cherry, one of the aromas that it develops. However, the name comes from "Criots", as in Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet, a reference to hard limestone soil. The sound "Cr" comes from the same root as "craie" (chalk in French), thus etymology and geology meet for this appellation.

Wine
This Grand Cru is a close cousin of Chambertin. History did not mention it until 1508. At that time, Latricières was certainly mistaken for their royal neighbor: Chambertin. The etymology is quite mysterious: for some, no doubt poets, the origin is Frankish and means “little wonder”. For others, more realistic and undoubtedly more observant, it is the very nature of the soil that is used to name it: “La Tricière”, which means “poor land”.

There formerly was a small oratory chapel a stone's throw from Clos de Bèze. It was built in 1155 and placed under the invocation of Notre–Dame, but it fell into disuse in the 14th century. This weighed heavily on the winegrowers so the chapel was rebuilt and consecrated again on July 4, 1457. The pious assembly gathered around Bishop Philibert de Beaujeu brought the fruits of his labor to paradise.

The word “Charmes” in ancient Burgundy came from common fields cultivated and found in the fallow land. Thus, in Burgundy, “Charme” means ‘thatch’ or “straw”.

Today the village devotes itself fully to Bacchus and it has forgotten that it was once called Santenay Les-Bains. Only through the chance designation of department limits during the Revolution was Santenay separated from Maranges. The vineyard, which is crossed by the gentle river Dheune, produces red wines for laying down. They are said to have "the soul of Volnay and the body of Pommard".

This surname is common in western France. The first part of this word: “Cara” derives from the name caras/charas or “heap of stones”. The earth here, in fact, is stony and, at the top, a large meurger, or pile of stones that were removed and deposited at the edge of the plot, is still visible.
