Extending to the south from Rully, the Mercurey vineyard is located on marl Limestone soils from geological formations of the Upper and Middle Jurassic, with a dominant of the latter, which appeal to the Pinot Noir grape variety.

This surname is common in western France. The first part of this word: “Cara” derives from the name caras/charas or “heap of stones”. The earth here, in fact, is stony and, at the top, a large meurger, or pile of stones that were removed and deposited at the edge of the plot, is still visible.

Food and Wine pairing

This wine’s spicy, floral or mineral notes make it ideal for pairing with grilled fish or in sauce, cooked seafood, Asian cuisine and hard cheeses. The white Mercurey is also appreciated as an aperitif.
