This vineyard takes its name from “Le Clos du Roi”, as one of the hereditary vineyards of the Dukes of Burgundy. Thus, for instance the Clos du Roy in Chenôve was originally called "Le Clos du Duc". In Aloxe–Corton and Beaune, there are also two Le Clos du Roi estates that belonged to the Dukes of Burgundy. In Mercurey, Le Clos du Roy first belonged to the Montaigu family.

This wine matures in 228 L barrels for ten months followed by five months of ageing in stainless steel vats.


Grapes receive cold pre-fermentation maceration for ten days with pumping over and punching down under temperature control throughout the fermentation.

Rich and fleshy, this Mercurey, from the heart of this district of great wines, gives satisfaction to steaks and chunks of beef and lamb, braised, or in sauce. 

Food and Wine pairing

Roast pork adopts this wine due to its rich aroma - as does simmered poultry. Exotic dishes also give it compliments. On the cheese board, this wine matches well with soft cheeses and also mature cheeses.
